A piece of UNESCO World Heritage on our own soil. That’s the Kinderdijk. In this polder landscape where the North and Lek rivers meet, you will find the Kinderdijk windmills. The 19 mills are basin mills and are popular with both Dutch and international tourists. It is a photogenic place where you can spend hours enjoying the Dutch landscape. The mills were built to pump up water from the polders to higher waters. In the Kinderdijk area you can take beautiful walks. A number of nice hiking trails run through the area.
Travel on towards the greenery of Rotterdam. The Kralingse bos in the heart of Rotterdam is over 2 hectares in size and is a versatile forest with many recreational possibilities. The recreational area received the award for the best outdoor space in the Netherlands in 2007 and for good reason. Most hikers walk a lap around the Kralingse plas, but the outer ring of the forest is also a must visit. In this area you will find winding paths and walk past centuries-old trees. You will also find a deer camp and a petting zoo where children can pet various animals. There is also a large nature playground in the forest with a climbing jungle and a cable car.
An evening of fresh air? You can do so on the beach of Ouddorp. This 17 kilometer long beach is very clean and is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Netherlands. Some parts of the beach are hundreds meters wide. A wonderful place for an evening walk. Even if you are not in the mood for a long walk, you can visit the beach of Ouddorp. On the coast you will find several trendy beach bars, such as Paal 10. Prefer a little more action? Water sports enthusiasts can indulge themselves at Brouwersdam. Here you can kitesurf, blokart, windsurf and much more.
